We had a last minute phone call asking my son to give a talk tomorrow at Primary so I quickly wrote this up tonight. I took most of the ideas from the March Friend and New Era magazines. I came up with the SPA acronym because I need those sort of devices to help me remember things! Here's the talk. Feel free to use any parts of it that you'd like.
The Lord has called prophets and apostles to guide us. Along with the scriptures and the gift of the Holy Ghost, the prophet and church leaders tell us the Lord’s specific concerns for us and what we need to do.
We have the responsibility to listen and to follow the prophets’ words, and we have a promise that blessings will come.
General Conference will be in about two weeks, on March 31st and April 1st and we will have the chance to listen to our living prophet and apostles.
Here are some tips to try before, during, and after conference.
Before Conference, you can make a list of questions that you would like to receive answers to. You can also get a good night’s sleep so you can be alert and awake for General Conference.
During Conference, you can try to watch or listen to all the sessions. Focus on conference instead of trying to do other activities at the same time. You can listen carefully and be ready to receive answers to your questions. You can also take simple notes.
After Conference, you can give thanks for the counsel and inspiration you received. You can read the talks again online or read them in the Ensign later.
Have you ever heard ladies talk about a having SPA day? That is when the women get their nails and hair done and stuff like that. Well, my mom taught me about a better way to have a spa day and it’s not just for girls.
President Monson said, “I urge you to STUDY the messages, to PONDER their teachings, and then to APPLY them in your life.”
(HOLD UP SPA SIGN)
So as you prepare for and watch General Conference, remember:
S for Study
P for Ponder and
A for Apply
