I feel that by comparing the two lists we can use this as a reference tool to remind ourselves at any time anywhere that we need to strive to be the best we can. It helps us also to reflect on the choices we have made and whether there needs to be adjustments made.

So basically, if you suffer from depression then you don't have the spirit? Because almost all of those on the "you don't have the spirit" list are symptoms of major depression
Of course if someone has depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc. that would be a different situation. I have people close to me that I love who deal with major depression and other issues and it is very challenging. They may feel constant darkness, desire to be alone, alienated from others, etc. I think just doing the best you can in your situation is what is important... Living your life in a manner to feel the spirit even if the depression is overwhelming.
When I had depression it is really hard to feel the spirit. There is a spiritual war going on for our souls. Many prophets and apostles have felt depression. Heber J Grant identified his darkness as voices of the evil ones telling him negative and untruths about himself. He said it lasted about 6 months. We really need to beware of the evil spirits that want to destroy our souls and make us miserable like they are. I talked with my Bishop got some good counseling from LDS social services. Made changes in my life and let go of the things that I cannot control. I still have dark times and we all will. We just need to recognize who it is coming from and change course.
