Here is the talk that my son is giving in Senior Primary tomorrow....
In the Proclamation on the Family it says:
All human beings – male and female – are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny.
This means that Heavenly Father is the father of each of our spirits. That is why we are all brothers and sisters and why we call each other brother or sister at church.
Lots of people tell me that I look like my dad and mom. I have brown eyes like my dad does. Our hair is the same color too. I have my mom’s smile and a strong chest like my uncle.
My body also looks like Heavenly Father’s body. In the scriptures it says, “God created man in his own image.” That means that I also look like my Heavenly Father.
The Family Proclamation also states:
In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life.
This means that even though we don’t remember it, we knew and lived with Heavenly Father before we were born. When His plan was presented to us in heaven, each of us accepted His plan. I am glad that I made the right choice.
As part of His plan, we were able to get physical bodies and come to earth to learn and grow. Heavenly Father loves each of us and wants us to return to live with Him someday.
I am grateful that Heavenly Father gave me a spirit body and a physical body.
I can take care of my spirit body by praying, reading the scriptures, attending church, following the prophet, keeping the commandments, being morally clean, and having faith.
I can care for my physical body by keeping the Word of Wisdom and staying away from drugs, alcohol and tobacco. I can eat healthy foods and exercise. I also show respect for my earthly body by not getting body piercings or tattoos.
I am thankful that Heavenly Father created us in His image. Because we are His children, we know that we are special and that He loves us. I am grateful we have the chance to live on this earth and to progress and that we can have the blessing of eternal life someday.
I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thanks for the talk idea, Pam. I just found it using Google while trying to quickly prepare a talk for my son in Junior Primary.
I hope you don't mind if I borrowed your ideas --- I really liked it.
Thank you for doing my job for me! I needed a talk for my 5 year old today and I am not good at doing this type of thing at all. I'm just going to simplify your version and call it good! Thank you so much!

I really enjoyed the way you brought the FP down to an appropriate level for children to understand. I LOVE your website, you definatly have a gift. I was wondering if you would be willing to share how to put the Family Proclamation on my blog like you did yours? I would love to also share this most needed message to my visitors. Thanks so much~ Traci

Dear Pam,
I have a question about your belief in human beings first being Spirit children in Heaven. If you believe that Heavenly Father is such as a human man, how can He produce Spirit Beings? And, if He could do so, why would He? If at first we could be in the presence of Heavenly Father (which is the hope of my after-life) why would He send us away? I'm not trying to bash your beliefs, but I am very curious why you believe the things you've written.
Here is a good link that has some more information about being spirit children of Heavenly Father.

If you go to http://www.mormon.org/mormonorg/eng/ there is also more information about our basic beliefs. You can also "chat" and ask questions in detail.
We believe that God is immortal (not mortal) but that we are created in the image of God. I don't know exactly how He produces spirit beings, but I know in my soul that I am a child of God and it only makes sense that He is our Father spiritually.
As far as why He would send us away, I believe He did that so that we could come to earth and have mortal experiences to learn and grow and progress. We need to experience opposition so that we can make choices between good and evil. God wants us to return to live with him after we have our earthly experience and that is why He provided a Savior for us.
Does that make sense? If you have more questions after you read the link, please leave me a note. Thanks! Pam
Thank you so much! I totally forgot about the talk assignment for my son, so I found this and he read this. Everyone was impressed, so we had to tell everyone he was reading your talk. Thank you for saving us last minute. ;)
