Church Humor - Bishopric Pun

Here's a little humor for any of my LDS blog readers out there....

Since it was Mother's Day, my husband taught my Primary lesson on Sunday and I was able to just sit and listen.  It was about Edward Partridge who was called as the first bishop.

Here's the conversation:

HUBBY:  Who was the first bishop in the church?

BOY: I know, I know.  BISHOP RICK

Okay, I'll admit that I had to pretend I needed a drink of water and I went out in the hallway to let my laughter out.  Best part was that the boy was completely serious!  Get it, "Bishopric" and "Bishop Rick!"  It still makes me laugh!

Primary - Captain Righteousness

The second counselor in our bishopric is a great sport.  He dresses up as CAPTAIN RIGHTEOUSNESS and pops in to surprise our Primary group during singing/sharing time about once a month.  Before he comes in, the lights are all suddenly turned off and a flashlight is turned on and focused on a small CTR sign on the chalkboard.  Then the kids get excited because they know a special visitor is coming.

He calls one class up to the front of the room and asks each child to tell something that they have done to Choose the Right recently.  Then he gives them a CTR ring to remind them to continue to choose the right.  The kids LOVE it and I must admit it makes me giggle too.

What a great tradition that kids (and teachers) will surely remember.

Primary Meet Your Teacher Pancake Breakfast

We had a fun Meet Your Teacher breakfast for our Primary kids at church this morning.

Being the random, word-loving person that I am, when I got there I started thinking about IHOP and how those letter were all in the word BISHOP.  The bishopric members were the ones cooking breakfast for everyone.  So listed below is the nickname/acronym I came up with.  I just couldn't help myself.  It made me giggle.

BISHOP (instead of IHOP)
Bishopric's Incredibly Superb House Of Pancakes

During the breakfast, each teacher sat with their Primary class and chatted together.  They gave each table a piece of paper and a die to roll.  There were six questions on the paper.  As a new Primary teacher, I really enjoyed getting to know the kids in my class better.

Here are the questions:
What's your favorite food?
Who's your favorite prophet and why?
What's your favorite subject in school?
What's your favorite hobby, sport, musical instrument?
Where would you like to go on vacation?
What's your favorite TV show?

Primary Activity - Get to Know the Bishopric

We did this in my old ward and it was very fun. I believe our bishopric was new at the time, but this activity could be done no matter how long the bishopric has been in place.

GET TO KNOW THE BISHOPRIC

We want to get to know each of the members of our Bishopric today.
We are going to play a game that will help us get to know each of them better!

· Have all the children sit on the floor.
· Explain that we have asked each member of the Bishopric several questions and they gave us their answers to those questions. We will be using the answers they gave us to play this game.
· The leader has a child come pick one of the cards that are face down on the board at the front of the group.
· The child or leader reads the favorite thing that is written on the card.
· The children guess which Bishopric member listed that thing as their favorite.
· After the correct guess is made, that card is placed on the board under that Bishopric member’s name.
· Next card – same thing, etc.

Heavenly Father has given us Bishopric members to help us and guide us. They love us and want the best for us. When we follow their direction, we are blessed.

Items needed: List of Bishopric favorite things, Bishopric name cards to use as column headings, Cards (with favorite things listed), Magnets to hold the cards on the board
